HAPPY SHOPPER #29: BRAD MILLERHAPPY SHOPPER #29: BRAD MILLER

We love Spain. Kat lived there as a child and it's where we had planned to escape to had something gone horribly, horribly wrong and McCain been elected president.

Our lastest Happy Shopper, photographer Brad Miller has worked with some of the rockinest rockers in recent musical history, everyone from Marilyn Manson to Eminem to Wilco and a lot more besides. He's currently preparing his first phtography book, Strange Girls (with a foreward by Lydia Lunch - if that tells you anything). It's a book of authentically strange girls, although with hearts of Gold. Check on his website for the Strange Postcards teaser collection. A good place to begin shopping, with Brad!

Q. What was the last electrical appliance you bought?
Brad: A Hitachi Magic Wand Massager... the lady in the picture on the box looks very pleased to be holding it on her shoulder... so I reckon you can use it for that as well...

How many shoes do you own?
23...  My favorites are a pair of Stacy pointy toed slip-ons that I bought at a farm mercantile store in Athens, GA. When I ask the price, the proprietor, in overalls, literally blew the dust off to reveal $8.98 hand written on the box in pencil..

Thinking about only what you are wearing now and  including your  watch, jewellery and glasses if you wear them, how much would it  cost me to get dressed up just like you? And where would I have to  go to get the look?
You caught me in a very casual moment but at almost any time you could dress like me for the change between your seat cushions. Follow me to any Good Will and I'll show you my skills. I can't stand shopping for clothes in regular stores. IF I manage to find something I like, I see how many are on the rack and realize that at least a hundred other swinging dicks are going to have the same shirt.

What are you going to be eating for dinner tonight?
Fish... we eat a lot of fish. Usually we grill but tonight it was very pedestrian frozen cod because it was just me and the kids. Since having kids, I've rediscovered all those white trash staples, like grilled cheese sandwiches and tater-tots.

What is the most amount you have ever spent on a bottle of wine  or other alcoholic beverage and when and where was it?
I'm sure it was a bottle of red wine at some lovely restaurant with mildly jacked up prices. I've blocked it out of my memory.

What and where is your favourite shop?
Probably Good Will or St. Vincent DePaul. I love not knowing what I'm looking for until I find it.

How do you get around town?
We have a Ford Escape Hybrid... and Katherine, my wife, and I bought each other bikes for Xmas, so I've been using that for shorter trips.

Where is your favourite place to holiday?
Spain I reckon. We love Spain. Kat lived there as a child and it's where we had planned to escape to had something gone horribly, horribly wrong and McCain been elected president.

THE ROLLING STONES GO TO ANAHEIM
I wasn't expecting to attend the Rolling Stones' current "A Bigger Bang" tour this year. At $1000 to $1,500 per ticket (the going rate for decent ticket broker seats), an evening with the Glimmer Twins was out of my price range. (more...)
