a little backstory

RocknRoll Writing About Pop Culture Matters
Writers Alarcon and Lamontpaul founded outsideleft in 2004, an internet age ago. Conceived as a fanzine firmly in the corner of the kind of pop culture fewer people care about. Rock 'n' Roll writing about Pop Culture Matters was the mantra and a journey began to change some small part of the world they inhabited.

outsideleft?

An outside left is a winger, an outlier, an alchemist, a nonconformist, the last name on the team sheet a thriller of the masses in pink leather boots, a sure and sometimes unreliable source of inspiration and now an online magazine of sometimes ill-repute. one outside left once claimed to have spent a fortune on women and booze, and the rest, he said, he just wasted. we know what he meant.

since then

outsideleft got its thumbprints on the web on clung on. lots of writers have come and mostly gone on to better things. for others their brush with outsideleft was enough to convince them that the romance of rocknroll writing was not all it might be. mercifully for us all. corporations took over the internet. phones took over the internet. tablets took over from phones. your digital assistant possibly found this for you and is reading it to you. corporations took over from people. most people stood still while thinking they were moving. a lot of people began to look backwards over their shoulders instead of forwards and thought they liked what they saw. things didn't go as planned.

there were four chronicles of our content out there

although due to our ineptitude, now only three that you can collect.
The First Annual Outsideleft Hardy Annual - a collection of articles from year one of outsideleft.
Darkness Racket and Twang (Essential Listening from the Fringes of Popular and Unpopular Music) - Alex V. Cook (paperback/kindle)
Everyday I Atrophy - Chris Connolly

and now and next

we don't know yet

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
