CSB Bitesize Streaming Spring Series
With The AVA Band
Saturday May 1st 7pm
Ava BandOne of the highlights of the springtime has been the Bitesize streaming sessions brought to Facebook by Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham. A diverse array of musicians have delivered a stellar musical journey through spring. We’ve been fortunate enough to see world class performers like Millicent Chapanda and Amadou Diagne and many others. How do they do it? How do they conjure this secret sauce over there?

This week we’ll see the sensational Ava Band, a captivating Anglo-Persian group who play mainly original compositions. Fusing Persian vocals, with an accompaniment of kora and flamenco guitar.

This is the lockdown, stripped down line up of the band. Usually you can anticipate additional violin, flute and hand percussion. The ‘lockdown’ line-up comprises: Mina Fatemi – Vocals and John Berry – Guitar.

Mina, is an Iranian singer who performs in her native language, Farsi, with an emotive and poetic delivery that never fails to move the audience. John Berry has an extensive history of musical collaborations, having played in the ensemble, Salmagundi,as well as with Sura Susso, a West African griot from The Gambia, as well as many other musicians.

It’s going to be another inspiring and delightful night from Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham. Not to be missed.

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
