Is it possible to be scared, exhilarated, titillated and lifted, carried down the church aisle through a corridor of waving, stroking hands, urged to the front, stroked and welcomed to kneel on what you thought was a cushion with covers crocheted in silk and a chalice put to your lips and to sip a sweet liquid which matches the ambience like a courtier’s choice of underwear for a king’s coronation, to hear only all the right notes and a smile in each one, too and gaze up at the priestess’s kinky, kindly smile, blessing you, all while reliving an old era when everything was better that never happened, feeling hip and right and excellent, modern but dressed in plaid, is it possible, but for then, to turn and look lovingly over one shoulder and… the congregation are smiling, drooling ghouls and you are theirs.

Here’s the proof that it is not only possible but very likely, if you go to this place (https://dywfuturejazz.bandcamp.com/album/negative-space) and buy this album on Bandcamp and then listen to it.

You will hear, on Chariot, where Miles Davis promised to go when he stepped into the Spanish desert with Solea from Sketches of Spain but it was just too damn hot and 1960s for him to even consider this might happen. You will hear what happens when a jazzer understands bass and people escaping war end up in Belgrade to exorcize and grin at fate’s stupid decisions.

Just for a day, recording in an old country house. What happened next? I want to know. Or, at least, I think I do. And, also, I think I know and I wish I didn’t.

Out now on Michigan based FPE Records.

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
