Joe Baiza's Congress Of... Bring their revisionary brand of pugilist jazz to Taix in Echo Park pretty frequently. Their reputation precedes them, oh by about 20 years, but you can check that in Trouser Press. Taix is the perfect place to see them. I think Joe 'controls' the bill there on the first Friday of each month. He brings in some great bands, not always Congress Of... but always worth checking out.
